Doch anders als oft behauptet, wurde sie nur von einer Minderheit der Ostdeutschen aktiv getragen. Whrend sich insbesondere mutige Dissidenten gegen die bestehenden Verhltnisse auflehnten, wartete die Mehrheit zunchst ab. Sie kam erst wirklich in Bewegung, nachdem die Berliner Mauer unter dem Druck der Demonstranten strzte und die innerdeutsche Grenze geffnet werden musste.
