Dafr ging er nach Rom und schloss sich dem Lukasbund um Friedrich Overbeck an, in dem sich christlich orientierte Maler zusammenfanden. Diese Knstler lehnten das fr sie in Michelangelo verkrperte 'Neuheidentum'
